The obverse side of the silver American Eagle features the “Walking Liberty" designed by Adolph A. Weinman. The image depicts Lady Liberty walking through an open field to meet the sun. Given Lady Liberty is a replica of the Greek goddess Athena, she is dressed in traditional Greek war toga brandishing an oak and olive branch. The US national flag bellows in the background.

On the reverse side is the familiar symbol of the American Eagle, a bird of prey that has become synonymous with the United States. The design was created by John Mercanti and depicts the spread-eagle with a shield over its chest and brandishing arrows clenched between the left claw and the olive branch in the right. Above the eagles head is a pyramid of 13 stars which represent the 13 original colonies. The “W" mint mark indicates the coins were manufactured at the US Mint facility in West Point.
